While business owners are busy attending courses in Facebook marketing, the professional marketers are moving on to Instagram for their posting. The future of internet advertising is in video, and Instagram is all about video. Video clips are now well established in all forms of digital marketing and are an essential part of all advertising and promotion. While copywriters have been in great demand for writing attention-grabbing content it’s the video experts who will be sort after in the future.
Everyone is talking about Facebook for marketing, but YouTube has a bigger following. Right now, in 2018, 82% of online Kiwis are using YouTube while 78% are using Facebook and 49% are using Instagram. When it comes to advertising, you need to appear in the medium which everyone is using. But what about demographics?
Here’s where it becomes interesting. For Facebook, even though the usage is skewed towards women (only by 5%), over 80% of New Zealand mothers use it every day. It is not surprising that the biggest group (850,000) is in the 25 to 34 years age group and over 90% of them access it on their mobile. It is interesting to note that there are over 1.1 million users of Facebook in New Zealand, in just the 35 to 54 years age group, while there are 510,000 in the 45 to 54 years group and still 640,000 in the 55 and above group. These figures prove that your company needs to be seen there.
For Instagram, the shift is to a lower age group. Of the 1.2 million users in New Zealand, 32% are in the 18 to 24 years age group, 27% are in the 25 to 34 years age group and 22% are in the 35 to 55 years age group. The usage in the older groups is growing rapidly.
YouTube statistics is all about channels. Viewers follow pop stars or film genres or simply, their favourite past-times. There are comedy channels, cartoon channels and complete films. From all these channels the demographics of the viewers care measured and target markets found for advertisers.
Video opens a whole new world for advertisers but this raises the bar for budgets. Videos can be shot using smart phones but a poor result will reflect on your brand. Video quality on smart phones is good but it is the experience of the videographer that will make the difference between a poor result and a professional looking result. Most of the work is done in the editing.
Whatever your product or service, you need to be using video for online marketing. It is an important part of online advertising therefore a budget needs to be allocated for video creation. Experienced marketers who can provide video services for a reasonable price are the people you need to find.
